Research Project!

This email was sent out via skyward this morning, I tried to send it Monday, and apparently it never sent out.

Good Morning Parents!

I am trying to send this email AGAIN regarding the research project that we are doing for social studies in class this week.I'm not sure why my emails haven't been coming through... so I apologize for the fact that this email is coming to you on a Wednesday morning rather than this past Monday as intended!

The students were instructed to pick a person that they admire or are inspired by to do a research project on. This person could be a musician, actor, athlete, scholar, inventor... the possibilities are endless.

We are completing this project IN CLASS. Each student will have time to work on this project daily during our social studies hour. All that they will need to do outside of class will be to simply bring a poster board to work with on Thursday or Friday. If you are unable to provide a poster board, please let me know, and I will be happy to pick up some extra poster board when I am running errands this evening. This is going to be a FUN project and hopefully one that the kiddos will be proud of when they're finished!

Let me know if you have any questions! Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Binders!

The students are very excited about their binders! I got them binders to encourage organization and responsibility, since they're practically fourth graders now. ( I've reminded them that in fourth grade, they're going to have to be SUPER responsible!!)

They each have a pencil pouch and a binder, but I have misplaced the big thing of dividers that I had. So... they're not fully organized yet, but we are working on it! Clearly I need to work on my organization skills too!

We have had an awesome first few days back from break, and are rocking and rolling! They have a new sense of responsibility and have had really great behavior!

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be taking our Quarterly Assessments, as well as our STAR 360 Reading and Math assessments, so the pressure will be on! I know they will do great!

Please don't' hesitate to email me with any questions that you have!

Happy New Year!

Hello Parents! A couple of reminders....

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING A SACK LUNCH FOR TOMORROW! We will leave promptly at 8:30 for the fair. Wear comfortable shoes, as we will be walking around the farm animals area. (Closed Toe Shoes are most appropriate)

Also, Tutoring will be cancelled this week due to the 3rd grade performance of Pirates! Our students will perform at the PTA meeting at 7pm in the cafeteria.

I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday evening!

Catching up and Announcements!

We've been learning like MANIACS at de Zavala!

Last week we focused on physical properties and states of matter in Science. So far we worked on...

  • Solid/Liquid/Gas in a glass (Rootbeer Float Science Experiment)
  • Science Stations (Float or Sink?, Magnetism, Mass, Physical Properties)
  • Temperature (Celsius and Farenheit)
In Math we've learned about:
  • Problem Solving
  • Adding and Subtracting
  • Representing numbers with models
  • Perimeter
We have been focusing on characters, events, plot, setting, and problem/solutions in Reading. We have worked with Myths, Fairy Tales, Tall Tales, and Legends this week. And each student completed a "Book Talk" about one of their favorite books!

Coming up next week... we will be learning more about multiplication. If any of you parents want to provide your child with extra practice, I recommend purchasing a set of FLASH CARDS for MULTIPLICATION. If you do purchase a set, have your child practice EACH night. We will be having weekly multiplication tests, to make sure that they master all of their facts!

We are also starting on Biographies and Autobiographies, so watch for information to be coming home about a Project on a famous person for your child to complete.
